Southern Cross Association (FTC) inc (SCA), was originally established in 1998, by a group of approx
10 like minded people to raise money and awareness for Spina Bifida. The run now donates monies raised to
Children's Charities, which is decided at the AGM bi-yearly.
The run mainly consists of motorbikes, but all vehicles are welcome, and is a fantastic way to meet new friends, and catch up with old ones. It is a
social event, and a great way to see the countryside.
The main fundraiser is and alway has been the Southern Cross Annual 5 Day Poker Run, with the very first run back
in 1998 raising $500.
Since then, the Poker Run has grown to be one of the largest and longest motorcycle events in Australia.
We donated $50,000.00 to Pyjama Foundation last year (2025), but we made $63,000.00 profit. We had 330 people registered.
The run travels throughout Queensland, often to remote areas as far as Noccundra, where the influx of people is
welcome.
Wherever we can, local community groups are given the opportunity to cater for us, so they can raise some much
needed funds.
The run starts somewhere in Queensland, and each day travels to a different location for 5 days until it reaches
the last stop somewhere else in Queensland.
Each night all participants draw a card for their Poker Hand, giving them a chance to win the prize of $1200.00 for the best hand
which is announced on the final night along with our other awards.
SCA is a non-profit organisation run solely by a group of dedicated volunteers. Over the past 28 years we have raised more than
$1.5 million dollars for Charities, with the focus on Queensland based Children's Charities.
